June Tour

The next S&F tour begins on the 28th of June in Bowral - just a couple of weeks away now. It is a beautiful program, a delight to practice and I am very much looking forward to rehearsals beginning soon. As you know from my previous newsletter, TRIOZ cellist Emma-Jane Murphy is now awaiting the arrival of her baby and we are fast approaching her due date. Our friend, Julian Smiles, will be our guest cellist for this tour while Emma-Jane is on her very short maternity leave. I hope you will join us in warmly welcoming him - Niki and I are looking forward to exploring these three great masterworks with Julian.

Mozart, Dvorak and Schubert are all deserving of the title, Master of Melody, and these three works show off their individual genius perfectly. All three works are very old friends and always continue to surprise me each time I visit with them. I believe you, like me, will succumb to the simple beauty of each which so cleverly hides the mastery beneath.

PROGRAM

W.A Mozart - Piano Trio in G major, K.496
Antonin Dvorak - Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor, Op. 90, 'Dumky'
Franz Schubert - Piano Trio No. 2 in E flat, D. 929

DATES

Saturday 28 June - Recital Room at Oxley College, Bowral - 5:30pm
Sunday 29 June - Elder Hall, University of Adelaide - 2:30pm
Monday 30 June - Fairfax Theatre, National Gallery, Canberra - 7:30pm
Tuesday 1 July - City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney - 7pm
Wednesday 2 July - Melba Hall, University of Melbourne - 8pm

Single tickets are available to all concerts (excluding Canberra).
You can contact us on 02 9969 7039 or email info@selbyandfriends.com.au.

For Sydney single tickets, please call City Recital Hall on 8256 2222 or go through their comprehensive website http://www.cityrecitalhall.com/events/id/205/Selby-and-Friends-2008-Recital-Hall-Concert-Series.

In Adelaide, tickets may also be purchased through BASS.

GAMES!

I believe it has been some time since I gave away some gifts and I would like to do so again in this issue. To win a couple of tickets to the upcoming tour in your city (excluding Canberra), please be the first to answer this question correctly:

What is the name of the great composer who so encouraged Dvorak during his lifetime?

| Best of luck!

A Little Lunch Music

Our most recent lunchtime concert in May featured myself as piano soloist and I had a great time chatting to a sold out house about some of my favourite piano solo works - coming up though on June 25th at 12:30pm, Niki, Julian and I will present selections from the upcoming tour and take you through some of the highlights of this incredible and delicious program. I do hope you'll join us and bring your lunch for a relaxing hour of music and fun. You can find out all details of these concerts by calling City Recital Hall on 8256 2222 or by visiting my website.

2009

2009 is just around the corner and I am busy putting together a season of works I have both discovered and rediscovered, for want of a better description. It looks like a solid year of piano trios at the moment but I am still toying with a few different ideas, so if you have any suggestions for me, please send them to me now, as soon as possible please as the ink is almost dry!

Till Next Time...

Hope to see you in June or July and in the meantime, stay warm!

Warm regards
