Lloyd Van't Hoff, Clarinet

Born in Darwin, Australia, Lloyd Van’t Hoff is fast building a career as one of Australia's most dynamic and versatile young clarinettists, creators and educators. 2017 will see Lloyd perform as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician at festivals and venues around Australia and the world, as well as continue a passionate advocacy for music education and new music by teaching and curating education programs at schools and universities, and by commissioning, performing and recording works by young Australian and international composers.

A keen musical traveller, Lloyd has shared, created and performed music all over the world. Performances at the Beijing International Festival of Modern Music (Beijing China), Menhuin Festival (Gstaad, Switzerland), Young Euro Classic (Berlin, Germany), Grafenegg Summer Music Festival (Grafenegg, Austria) and the Banff Centre (Banff, Canada) have showcased Lloyd’s versatility as a musician on a global scale.

Closer to home, Lloyd has enjoyed great success having recently been crowned the 2015 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year. As well as winning the Triffitt Prize, an award bestowed upon an outstanding young individual, at the same event, Lloyd was also a finalist in the Melbourne Recital Centre’s 2015 Great Romantics competition, a recipient of the Director’s Prize at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), and a winner of the ANAM Chamber Music Competition as part of the Arcadia Quintet.

Lloyd has followed his passion for chamber music around Australia, with recent appearances at festivals in virtually every state and territory in the nation seeing him participate in many highly-acclaimed productions. Most notably, Lloyd featured in Paul Kelly's Aria-award-winning project, Conversations With Ghosts, in which he was able to explore his interest in cross-genre collaboration, and playing the saxophone. Lloyd is also a founding member of the award-winning Arcadia Quintet, who have recently been announced as of Musica Viva Australia’s inaugural FutureMakers.

Lloyd studied under tutelage of Paul Dean, Floyd Williams and David Thomas at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the Australian National Academy of Music. More recently, Lloyd has learned with esteemed pedagogue Yehuda Gilad in Banff, Canada.
