BELOVED MASTERWORKS PERFORMED BY INTERNATIONAL STARS

Selby & Friends’ 2013 season re-discovers some of the most sublime chamber music ever written performed by an ensemble cast of internationally renowned soloists from around the world.

THE dividends of friendship are manifold ... Pianist Kathryn Selby has brought together musicians of exceptional calibre who clearly love playing together.” The Australian 2012

With two new commissions planned for 2014, the exciting 2013 season will focus on the performer with many favourite masterworks chosen by the Artistic Director, pianist Kathryn Selby, and her superb cast of guest artists in a showcase of duos, trios, quartets and quintet to delight and enthral.

Schubert, Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, John Ireland, Grieg and more will be performed by brilliant Australian and internationally renowned musicians. Joining pianist Kathryn Selby for the first time are Ilya Konovalov, concertmaster Israel Philharmonic, Tobias Breider, SSO principal violist, Timo-Veikko Valve, principal cellist ACO, Vesa-Matti Leppänen, concertmaster New Zealand Symphony and Australian virtuoso violinist Susie Park.

Returning guest artists include New-York based cellists Clancy Newman and Australian Julian Smiles and violinist Sophie Rowell and Adelaide based British violinist Elizabeth Layton.

The season also includes the inaugural S&F Development Artist providing a young artist the unique opportunity to be mentored by extraordinary ensemble performers. Included in Tour 1 2013, this young performer will work with the ensemble in Dvorak’s beautiful Piano Quintet in A major.

Selby believes 2013 will be her most exciting season to date: “The extraordinary talents of this fine ensemble of master performers looks more like a thrilling international music festival than a year long series of concerts and we are all looking forward to not only working together in many of our favourite chosen works, but also mentoring a young Australian violinist and sharing with her chamber music and all its glorious joys.”

S&F is proud to present this season of outstanding quality and variety to suit all tastes.
