TOUR 1 - Blossom and Grow

Featuring Dvořák’s glorious Piano Quintet in A, the opening tour for 2013 presents the three ensemble combinations favoured by composers over the last two and a half centuries and does so in grand fashion. Opening with Mozart’s inimitable development of the piano trio as an ensemble to be reckoned with, this concert then moves to the impressionistic flavour Fauré’s first great piano quartet and the concert ends with one of the most popular piano quintets of all time - the Dvořák. With return appearances by British violinist, Elizabeth Layton and US cellist Clancy Newman, S&F invites newcomers Tobias Breider (SSO Principal Violist) and special guest, the first S&F Development Artist, Grace Clifford, to join Artistic Director/pianist Kathryn Selby for an impressive, melody-filled evening of great music performed by superb artists.

Australian virtuoso Susie Park returns to Australia to join ACO Principal Cellist Timo-Veikko Valve and Artistic Director/pianist Kathryn Selby in this brilliant foray through three beloved and thrilling piano trios. Displaying brilliancy, sensitivity and panache, this program moves from Russian fearlessness with Shostakovich to Ravel’s French eloquence and finally to the great piano trio of Schubert’s Viennese charm and finesse. Don’t miss this tour de force from three of our most revered artists together for the first time.

Unashamedly filled with gorgeous romantic flair and melody, pianist Kathryn Selby brings together two brilliant Finnish artists for the first time with Vesa-Matti Leppänen (Concertmaster of the New Zealand Symphony) and ACO Principal Cellist Timo-Veikko Valve. Performing three highly impassioned works in a single program by three giants in Grieg, Mendelssohn and Brahms will provide plenty of romance for a thrilling evening of masterful music making.

With special guest artist, Ilya Konovalov, Concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Selby & Friends presents a rare treat – a recital by two renowned musicians performing favourites from the repertoire. With Beethoven’s mighty 'Kreutzer' sonata to round out the program, the concert begins with Brahms’ last sonata, Tchaikovksy vignettes and a unique performance of an early solo violin work by Peter Sculthorpe. Don’t miss this special event!

Presenting a demanding program of Beethoven’s first piano trio, a charming rarity by iconic Spanish composer Joaquín Turina and ending with the great 'Dumky' Trio by Dvořák, this is sure to be a season end to please all tastes! Don’t miss this brilliant conclusion to a marvelous season of chamber music!
