TOUR 1 - A Ghost at the Cafe

To open the season, we focus on two giants in Beethoven's 'Ghost' and Shostakovich's epic second trio, plus the charming and good humoured Miniatures by the English master Frank Bridge and the explosively entertaining world of American folk music, ragtime, jazz with Cafe Music by Schoenfield

A striking collection of melodious masterworks centered around the friendship andadmiration of colleagues Gade, Chopin and Mendelssohn. We then add a touch ofthe Baroque with a Russian twist! Joining Kathryn Selby for this concert is superbAustralian violinist Sophie Rowell, former leader of both the Australian String Quartetand the Tank Stream Quartet and cellist Julian Smiles, renowned for his chambermusic prowess and membership in both the Australia Ensemble and Goldner StringQuartet.

TOUR 3 - Magical Miniatures

Celebrating the company of these three much-loved instruments, the programfeatures the soulful sounds of Faure and Australian composer Andrew Schultz, thetechnical mastery and tone colour of Debussy and the inspired originality of American composer John Cage and the poetic story-telling of three great Romanticmasters - Bruch, Brahms and Schumann. The charismatic clarinetist, Cathy McCorkill,returns to S&F for this concert, joined by cellist Julian Smiles.

Join us for a joyous program of piano quartet masterpieces, including a tribute to English icon John Ireland's original creation by Australian Paul Stanhope. Guest artists joining Kathryn Selby for this marvelous evening of melody and charm are violinist Elizabeth Layton, former member of the famed Nash Ensemble and leader of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra recently moved to Adelaide, Australian violist Glen Donnelly and virtuoso cellist Julian Smiles, member of the Goldner String Quartet.

TOUR 5 - From Prodigy to Prodigious

A season finale to showcase the gifts of prodigies who truly fulfilled their promise - duo sonatas of sublime melody and technical prowess with one of the most beloved of all piano trios to bring all three soloists together. And our soloists for this program are sublime indeed - virtuosos violinist Natsuko Yoshimoto returns to S&F. Currently she is concertmaster of the ASO and former leader of both the Australian and Grainger String Quartets. Join us for a brilliant finale to the 2012 season!
