Corona Virus Information
Dear S&F Patrons and Friends
I hope you are all staying safe and well.
I would like to bring you up to date on what I have been doing to bring you the promised concert to replace our cancelled May performances, and introduce you to our new initiative - Selby&Friends At Home.
With our usual concert venues closed, I am particularly grateful to Sydney Grammar School here in Sydney's CBD for allowing me and my guests, Andrew Haveron and Umberto Clerici, to film and record a full, live concert performance last Friday, 27 March in one of their performance spaces. This concert will soon be available for 2020 subscribers and Tour 2 ticketed patrons to experience, thanks to the internet and we will contact you soon with instructions on how to access it.
I also spoke on camera with both Andrew and Umberto about the music, amongst other things, which will provide an extra 30 minutes or so of fascinating material for you to enjoy. I was extremely fortunate to find a highly experienced videographer and an audio expert to record the sound and we are now putting all the elements together to make it available to you.
As you can see from this photo, the concert was performed under unusual conditions which posed its own set of unique problems - it was a completely live experience done under time restrictions, social distancing rules and without the most important element - you, our audience!
This special concert is not the only exciting news!
Our new initiative, Selby&Friends At Home, will give you access online to a range of live concert recordings from our archive, going back to 2003. We will bring these to you through our YouTube Channel. You can subscribe to our channel for free and we will begin uploading music very soon.
For patrons who have purchased as a group, we ask that each individual's email address be provided to us by email to ensure everyone has access to the concert and extras.
I am incredibly grateful to you for supporting my efforts in these bewildering and overwhelming times.
Warm regards and again, please stay well. I will be in touch soon.
Dear S&F Patrons and Friends
Selby & Friends has been monitoring the COVID-19 crisis as it sweeps across the globe. Like you, I am extremely concerned for the health and well-being of our entire community and for everyone involved with our ability to present concerts - from the artists and our audience members to support personnel and venue staff.
As you have no doubt heard from my colleagues and friends in other arts organisations around the country, the arts community is facing enormous challenges in the months ahead and is working hard to remain afloat and viable and continue to bring music to our audiences.
S&F is aware of the Federal Government’s directives and restrictions on international and domestic travel, especially those announced on Wednesday 18th March. Several of our venue partners have already indicated they will not be operational. As a result concerts presented by Selby & Friends in the near future, will have to be cancelled.
However, whilst our upcoming tour in early May, Let’s Get Personal, will not go ahead as planned, I am currently working to create a 'virtual' video/audio concert experience which will be made available to all ticket holders for this May tour. This will be professionally done and I will be ensuring it is of the highest quality with extra content to ensure the experience is truly unique.
One of my guest artists for this program, NZSO Concertmaster Vesa-Matti Leppänen, is in New Zealand and will of course be unable to participate given the current restrictions. SSO Concertmaster Andrew Haveron has kindly agreed to step in and together with SSO Principal Cellist Umberto Clerici we will put together a beautiful program of chamber music for patrons to enjoy without putting yourself or anyone else in the community at risk.
I would like to thank you in advance for your patience, assistance and ongoing support in giving me a bit more time to work through the necessary arrangements and create a workable solution to the huge set of challenges we all now face.
Further information will be sent to you in the coming weeks so please watch for emails from S&F.
Warm regards and please stay well.
Kathy Selby - Director/Pianist, Selby & Friends
