Selby & Friends Film & Record Live in City Recital Hall

Kathryn Selby AM – ‘and friends’ – have broken through the live music lockdown with the first classical music concert performed and filmed under social distance protocols at Sydney’s spectacular City Recital Hall!

The all-Beethoven recital - filmed for broadcast in high-res and hi-fi - follows an extraordinarily successful online concert in May and will be available online soon.

Selby has a long-standing partnership with City Recital Hall that dates back to 2007. Her TRIOZ group was the venue’s first ensemble-in-residence and her collaboration with the venue on the A Little Lunch Music series quickly grew from five to its current twelve annual concerts. Selby is co-Artistic Director of this popular series.

“We are delighted to be the first back here since the lockdown and incredibly grateful to CRH for making it possible for Selby & Friends to come into the venue to film our ‘breakthrough’ live concert,” she said.

“Staff were amazingly helpful and the whole experience was a complete delight. It’s wonderful to be in our Sydney home again and we can’t wait to be back presenting concerts to a live audience in the venue soon.”

CRH CEO Justin Boschetti said "it was just so wonderful to hear the music in the venue again!"

The concert - a special 250th Beethoven celebration - is centred on Beethoven’s revolutionary ‘Ghost’ Piano Trio, bookended by his much-loved C minor Trio Opus 1, no. 3 and Beethoven’s own arrangement for piano trio of his spectacular Symphony No. 2.

Selby’s focus on supporting young Australian artists is evident again with debut guest artist, violinist Harry Ward, a rising star and 2020-21 Musica Viva Futuremaker, who has performed around the world and counts international and Australian prizes amongst his accolades. The popular Principal Cellist of the ACO, Timo-Veikko (Tipi) Valve, a long-time Selby & Friends collaborator, completes this impressive trio.

The filmed live concerts are complimentary with special exclusive extras to season subscribers and ticketed patrons but will soon be available to the general public online.

Selby & Friends also has a library of live audio recordings drawn from its vast concert archive spanning the past 14 seasons. New recordings are available free to all music-lovers each week.
