This unusual program explores the home-grown roots of our special guests, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, violinist Vesa-Matti Leppänen and SSO Co-Principal Cellist Umberto Clerici who join Artistic Director Kathryn Selby. Presenting works by Sibelius, Martucci, Beethoven and Dvorak, we explore the beauty and exoticism of these works and their influence on classical music through the generations and indeed their influence on the artists themselves. A fascinating personal journey, this is a special concert and one not to be missed!
- Jean Sibelius - Sonatina in E major for violin and piano, Op.80
- Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Trio in E-flat major, Op.1 No.1
- Giuseppe Martucci - Two Romances for cello and piano, Op.72
- Jean Sibelius - Theme and Variations for solo cello (1887)
- Antonin Dvořák - Piano Trio in E minor, Op. 90 'Dumky
