Louise Turnbull is a 20-year-old violinist from Melbourne, Australia. A graduate of the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), she studied under Sophie Rowell and Adam Chalabi, and was awarded the 2023 St Silas Award for the best first-year recital. In 2025, she was also selected as an Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist.
Louise has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, presenting concertos by Brahms, Beethoven, Dvořák, and Sibelius. In 2023, she appeared in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Ears Wide Open series, performing excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. She also recently enjoyed performing Korngold’s Violin Concerto with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, where she was a member for over 10 years.
A passionate chamber musician on both violin and viola, Louise has presented recitals across Melbourne and regional Victoria, most recently collaborating with pianist Elyane Laussade. She has also played casually with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Internationally, Louise has participated in the Keshet Eilon Mastercourse (Spain) and the Voksenåsen Academy (Norway), studying with distinguished teachers including Ani Schnarch, Dora Schwarzberg, Robin Wilson, Peter Herresthal, and Mark Gothoni.
Louise looks forward to continuing her musical studies in Europe in the near future.
