Back from the Brink (Twilight Series)

17th March 2022

The Twilight Series at Melbourne Recital Centre is a one hour concert, with no interval, beginning at 5pm.

We return to the stage, back from the brink, after what seems like a long hiatus with a fascinating program celebrating composers who fought against the establishment and in doing so forged a courageous way forward for those that followed. The great American composer, Amy Beach wrote a strong rebuttal to comments made by Dvořák about women in music and became a national symbol of women’s creative power. Ravel represents one whose own path fused modern elements with the baroque, classicism and jazz. Virtuoso American Cellist Clancy Newman joins Australian icons Dene Olding and Artistic Director and pianist Kathryn Selby for the first concert in this new Twilight Series.
